Seyla, BattleTech players! Welcome to the player packet for the 2026 Crossroads BattleTech Grand Tournament. Over 20 years running under the deft leadership of Corey Reynolds, Crossroads started with Warhammer Fantasy roots, and eventually became the site of the largest Kings of War tournament in North America while also hosting other annual events like Mordheim Narrative Campaigns, board game events, and a large charity raffle. For 2026, Crossroads is holding its first yearly BattleTech Classic GT, hosted by Zess Williams and the Black Wolves Mercenary Company, with support and inspiration from the Odysseus Legion's Iliad League format.
Due to the proximity of the event to the release of the new Core Rulebook and the difficulties players are expected to have with obtaining and adapting to the new rules in time, Crossroads 2026 will NOT be using the new rulebook this year. Instead, the event will be played under the Total Warfare / BattleMech Manual standard, with the following optional rules in play:
Players are expected to follow clean play and maintain respectful sportsmanship across their matches. Players are also expected to be mindful of the round time limit and maintain a high enough rate of play to finish their games. Intentionally delaying a game to maintain a favorable game state is not allowed. There will be a trophy for Best Sportsmanship!
Only 6-sided, cube-shaped dice are allowed. Dice must have pips, and symbols (i.e. BT faction emblems) are only allowed on the "6" facing. Players are allowed to request to use an opponent's dice.
All miniatures are expected to use official Catalyst Game Labs or Iron Wind Metals miniatures. If an official new (post-A Game of Armored Combat) plastic CGL miniature does not exist, 3D-printed or proxy models are allowed. Proxies must be similar enough to the represented unit to avoid confusion with other units on the board. Kitbashes and customizations, within reason, are allowed. If there is a concern over the use of a model, please ask the TO.
All miniatures must be painted to at least a minimum 3-color tabletop standard. Armies will be scored on paint and hobby by judges, and players will also submit their choice for their favorite army. There will be awards for Best Painted and Player's Choice.
Each player will build TWO 7,000-point lists for the event, labeled "List A" and "List B." At the beginning of each pairing, players will share and briefly review their lists. Each player will then select one of their lists in secret, and simultaneously reveal their choices. The match will then commence normally.
When building lists, players must select a BattleTech Faction and Era. Both List A and List B must share this Faction and Era. All units included must adhere to the availability for that Faction/Era choice, as defined by the Master Unit List (MUL).
Players may adjust the munitions carried by their mechs in list building. These alterations must be submitted in list building, clearly declared and marked, and cannot be altered during the tournament.
Players may freely:
Each unit may take ONE ton of specialty munitions. Allowed examples are below:
We will be using custom, 3D terrain layouts that are pre-laid out, instead of traditional CGL paper or neoprene maps. When paired, players will be randomly assigned a table to play on. Each table will be unique, with various themes, including cityscapes. Terrain is not to be modified by players, and any issues can be addressed with a TO if one occurs. Players will roll off as part of pairing, with the winner choosing their Home Edge, and the other player receiving the opposite edge as their Home Edge.
The first round of the tournament will be randomly seeded, and rounds 2 through 5 will proceed on Swiss scoring. Players will be assigned an opponent and table number, and the Mission Type for the round will be announced, which is shared across all pairings.
After pairing, players are to share both of their list rosters with each other for brief review. Players will roll off, with the winner choosing their Home Edge for the game, and the other player receiving the opposite edge as their Home Edge.
Players will both secretly select their "A" or "B" list, and simultaneously reveal their selections.
If Supply Raid is the mission being played, players will both set their Decoy Objectives.
Players roll off for the first turn as per normal initiative, and units enter the board from their Home Edge as part of their activation, spending MP to enter the hex as if entering the hex from the same level as the first hex entered.
Player scores will be a combination of Objectives and Attrition points out of a maximum of 100 per match, with 80% from Objectives and 20% from Attrition. Each Mission Objective will accumulate points as indicated on the Mission overview, and Attrition will be scored as a percentage of a unit's BV when Crippled or Destroyed.
